Reusing furniture for temporary urban spaces

Reusing furniture for temporary urban spaces is both sustainable and provides valuable insights for permanent solutions

The red LOOP benches, designed by AART, were created for Aarhus Festival 17 years ago. They have not only been a staple of the festival but have also been loaned out to other festivals and events. Now they are temporarily installed at Vesterbro Torv in Aarhus, along with other recycled materials. An inspiring story of sustainability and creative reuse that shapes our cities. A strong collaboration by the City of Aarhus, COWI, and LYTT Architecture.

This new green oasis in the heart of Aarhus C offers less traffic and more space for relaxation. Materials from the former parking garage have been reused as gravel paving, and the trees that previously stood on the square have been replanted to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. The steps winding gracefully around the large tree were once part of the retaining walls surrounding the square
